Loving All Nautical Things

There is something about the ocean that inspires me to design.  I guess I find serenity in the sounds of the waves and the stillness of the sand.  So many tiny treasures lie beneath its grainy surface. I find pleasure in the simple things in life. A great magazine read while tanning beneath the sun’s hot and beaming rays. I wonder why I love the color yellow, shiny and bright like the sun. Its color brings warmth and laughter to my heart and I find myself drawn to gold metals. The color blue, but just not any blue, but the depth of navy, reminds me of nautical nights by the shore and a midnight stroll.  I find beauty in the natural things and pretty in the simple. IMG_7740

I AM DRAWN TO ANYTHING THAT'S NAUTICAL IN TEXTURE AND STYLE.

Wood & Recycled Fiber

I know it is a bit early for these new designs but I do reside in Miami where it is always summer. Since I do need to prepare early for my new seasonal collections, here is a sneak peek of my “Sand & Sea” Summer Collection.
I really love this collection because of the exquisite natural wood beads I’ve used and also the recycled silk fabric.  Let me tell you a little bit about this fiber.  This new Fair Trade Recycled/Reclaimed Sari silk is made in a small co-op in northeast India by the women working in the factories. These are the remnants of fabric that has been used to design silk clothing. It is gathered and sewn together to create strands of silk ribbon. It is not perfect but that is what gives it its uniqueness. Nothing is left to waste!
I am loving this beach wear collection!
Here are a few photos of the first ones that are already at one of my stores. www.catillajewelry.etsy.com.

How refreshing is the sea shore! The sandy beach with wonderful treasures and the scent of ocean waters attract my senses.  I often visit the ocean to envision new designs for my jewelry pieces.  I love the beauty of natural elements and its delicate nature. This piece is named Refreshing Aqua Quartz Glass Necklace.  I used the wire wrapping technique to add silver wire to the beautiful and soft aqua color of this glass quartz bead pendant. You can view this piece at my shop at http://www.catilla.etsy.com
